How to Stay Fit

You worked so hard to get your summer body, you were showing it off at the beaches while it was hot, and now, winter is coming.

For most people, the time of low activity and high-calorie intake, which inevitably results in accumulation of, let’s call them, supplies.

This is not so bad altogether as it can really help you to stay warm during winter, but it’s important to be careful and not exaggerate. It is also important to stay fit during winter, despite all the cold, bad weather and an overall lack of energy and motivation which are typical of the periods with less sunshine.

But you are better and stronger than that. So here are some useful tips from fitness professionals at Fit Athletic Club on how to actually stay fit during winter despite all the “obstacles”.

Have Your Goal Crystal Clear

Keep reminding yourself how hard you have worked to look the way you look, how much effort you have made to be where you are. Personal trainers that San Diego residents trust the most tell this to their clients throughout the year, but it is especially important during the winter season of temptation and lower energy.

Keep reminding yourself how good it feels to be fit and to be happy with your appearance. Remember how well you feel when you eat healthily and exercise. Have a crystal clear goal of reaching or maintaining your current fitness and forget about all the other circumstances.

You have a goal to reach ahead of you no matter what, so cold weather and the delicious tempting food is no excuse for you to give up. Of course, you are not a robot, allow yourself an occasional treat or cheat day, just make sure you don’t fall into the trap and cater yourself (or rather your laziness) too much.

Not losing the clear goal from sight will help you stay on the right track. Everything begins in your head, so first make sure that foundation is really firm.

Adapt

Okay, so you love jogging, walking and going to the swimming pool? But when the cold comes, you are not so motivated to exercise outdoors?

Well, in that case, try changing your routine and finding some indoor activities, such as going to the gym or doing exercise at home.

Alternatively, try changing your attitude, put on some warm clothes, gather your strengths and continue with your outdoor routine regardless of the conditions and circumstances.

The first option seems more painless, but be it as it may, do not give up and stop making up new excuses. Remember the first item on this list – keep your final goal in mind and gather all your mental strength first. The physical one will follow.

Take up a Winter Sport

If you can’t beat them… You know how the saying goes.

So why not use the cold weather and snow and enjoy some winter sports while you can? You can make physical activity so much fun, especially if you go with your friends or family.

There is certainly an ice rink in your town, maybe even an open one during winter, and though it seems light and easy, this sport can take you a lot of energy.

Skiing or even sledding can also be fun and useful for staying fit at the same time. If you can’t ski, try taking up lessons.

Again, ask your friends or family to join you, it might make things easier for you. The most important thing is to remain physically active instead of falling into hibernation mode during winter. When the spring comes, you’ll be glad you haven’t overslept the winter.
