Owning a Sundance hot tub is a lot of fun. However, to safely enjoy the spa, you need to make sure that you keep both the hot tub and the water inside clean. We have some tips on how you can easily keep your Sundance spa clean.
Cleaning a Sundance Hot Tub
Once every three months, you should give your Sundance spa a deep cleaning. Before draining your hot tub, you need to make sure that your drain lines are properly cleaned by using a line flush product that will kill all the bacteria living inside. You can run the hot tub with this cleaner inside the tub so that it goes through all the internal plumbing and the jets. As the water in your hot tub drains, the cleaner will remove calcium buildup and other scum in your hot tub’s internal plumbing.
Next, you will need to drain the water in your hot tub. To drain the water in your spa, you need to:
- Turn off the tub
- Unscrew the 3-inch gray drain valve cap on the side of the spa cabinet to expose the male garden hose fitting
- Attach the garden hose to the drain fitting
- Open the drain valve to release the water from the hot tub by pulling on the garden hose at the drain connection
- Clean the hot tub using the steps below and allow that water to drain out of the tub as well
- Once the water has been drained, close the drain valve by pushing the garden hose inward at the drain connection until you can’t push it in more
- Remove the garden hose and replace the drain valve cap
You can also use a small pump to help drain your hot tub more quickly.
Now that the water has been drained, you need to clean your hot tub. Using a clean cloth and cleaner made specifically for hot tubs or just water with vinegar, you should wipe down the inside of the spa. Once you’ve cleaned the inside of the cabinet, you will want to rinse out the tub and make sure to drain all the water out of the tub again.
While cleaning your hot tub, clean and treat the hot tub cover with a UV protectant to prevent sun damage, drying, and shrinking. The vinyl can easily be damaged by the sun, so it is important to keep it protected to help prolong its life.
Cleaning the filter is another important task. When you are cleaning out the hot tub, you can just remove your Sundance filter and spray it down with water. If the filter is really dirty, you might need to soak it in a cleaning solution to get rid of anything trapped in the filter’s pleats. In some cases, you may need to replace your hot tub filter altogether.
Some filters should not be sprayed or washed. Be sure that you know what kind of filter you have and how to care for it.
Once the body of your Sundance hot tub has been cleaned, you can refill the tub. Fill the spa using a hose. Insert the hose into the filter well to prevent air locks when you start the hot tub. When full (or at least covering the filters), you can turn on the hot tub and start treating the water inside.
Treating Water in a Sundance Hot Tub
To keep the water in your Sundance spa clean, you need to treat it with chemicals. You will need a sanitizer. Chlorine and bromine are both popular choices to keep the bacteria at bay in a hot tub. These chemicals come in different forms, so you can choose what works best for your lifestyle.
When the water has fully heated up, which usually takes about five hours, you can test the water to make sure it is properly balanced with a test strip. If you need to make any pH or alkalinity adjustments, now is the time to do it. Alkalinity and pH increasers and decreasers can help you hit just the right numbers in your hot tub.
Keep your Sundance hot tub clean longer with a spa cover. A custom-fitted spa cover will help keep dirt, debris, and bacteria out of your hot tub when it isn’t in use. You should also keep shock treatments around to help with dirty water issues throughout the use of the hot tub.
