Running is a type of exercise that is often undermined in terms of its seriousness. Running is important, but so are other areas of your health

If you want to optimize your performance as a runner, there is more to this activity than simply increasing the duration and intensity of your runs. Investing in proper shoes and attire is important

Invest in apparel that is lightweight and breathable, and therefore feels comfortable during long runs and allows you to perspire. You should also consider purchasing some reflective gear so that if you decide to embark on runs during the evenings and night times, you will be visible to cars.

Consider buddying up 

Finding a running partner to workout with or joining a training group is a great way to stay motivated in your running goals since you can all offer each other practical advice and moral support.

Challenge yourself! 

When you first start running, it’s important to manage your expectations and understand they you cannot simply go from couch potato to Olympic athlete standard overnight. You need to take it slow in the beginning and then gradually push yourself further. That said, there is no harm in pushing yourself as you embark on your journey. You can consider signing up to races and tournaments in your area.
